The Ocean Sensorium

Concept Creator | Newton Harrison
Research Director & Designer | Kelly Skye

The Ocean Sensorium is an immersive work that invites participants to “walk the world ocean,” interact with it, ask it questions, hear its challenges, and discover fresh new insights for ocean recovery solutions to the incredible number of stresses that have been placed on it over the last 100 years. I helped conceptualize and design this unique project with Newton Harrison, an ecological artist and emeritus professor at the University of California Santa Cruz.

The interactive floor and walls of the Sensorium are covered with sophisticated visual and auditory simulations powered by AI innovation and multi-variate GIS mapping. Based on this original concept, a prototype has been successfully funded, and it is now in development by AlloSphere Research Facility at UC Santa Barbara.

What would it be like to have a conversation with the ocean?
